Wild game meat is considered one of the healthiest and most useful. Feeding dogs according to the BARF principles is no exception. Game meat significantly surpasses the meat of animals or birds, such as bulls or chickens, in its beneficial properties. What are these properties and why does game meat have them? We will try to answer briefly and clearly.
1. Principles of animal nutrition. Deer, elk and roe deer, the meat of which forms the basis of the Top Dog Bistro “More Wild” recipe, eat natural grass and various green forest and meadow plants. Also, these animals lead an active life, they are constantly moving. All this contributes to a much better quality of meat.
2. Feeding game meat helps reduce inflammation. Studies show that high levels of Omega-6 fatty acids increase inflammation in your dog's body. Why should we be concerned about this? Inflammation causes various health problems: rheumatoid arthritis, diabetes, cancer or simply overweight problems. How does excessive Omega-6 occur in the body of dogs? Corn and grain diet - both when feeding them to your dog and when feeding the meat of animals fed this way. This is where the advantages of a natural grass and plant-based diet for animals come into play.
3. It is an excellent source of lean protein. Meat is the most important thing in a dog's diet, and venison, elk and roe deer are excellent sources of lean protein. For example, 100 g. of venison contains as much as 26 g. of protein.
4. Less fat. Game meat has a lower fat content. Why? Again, for the reasons already mentioned - animals live a more active life and eat more naturally, healthier, greener food. Feeding “More Wild” food will help you maintain your dog’s proper body weight.
5. Rich in beneficial fatty acids. Deer, elk and roe deer meat contains more beneficial Omega-3 fatty acids than, say, beef or lamb. Why is this so important? A low level of Omega-3 acids increases the risk of heart disease. A lack of Omega-3 acids also disrupts a dog’s memory and cognitive processes.
6. Source of minerals and vitamins. Game meat is rich in minerals and vitamins that are beneficial to a dog’s body. Game meat contains mostly iron, zinc, phosphorus and B vitamins.
